Reverie of the Mind Unfettered This document consists of all of the fragmentary ideas that I have not yet fleshed out enough to really stand on their own as essays. I often get these insights at moments like this very one. I'm Browsing six different websites simultaneously, listening to Tool, consuming energy drinks, and smoking kreteks. My mind is comfortably tuned to filter out the extraneous mundanities of living in the age of information overload. Even I find it ironic that I take these moments to further pollute, or enhance if wish to be kind, the Noosphere with more of my observations. 1/27/05 Q:What is the nature of evil? Evil is that which seeks to destroy without reason. Q:Is evil the opposite of good? Both good and evil are subjective, so they can only be opposites within a given frame of reference. Q:Is evil in "eternal conflict" with good? No. Both are constructs of the human mind. Without the sentience required to contemplate them, neither exist. Q:Is evil necessary for things to run along smoothly? By the definition of evil that I am considering, no. I believe that this misconception arises from the inability of humanity to distinguish between evil and entropy. Q:What is the origin of evil? Fear, mistrust, and the will to power. All the hallmarks of we cheeky monkeys. (my answers from a discussion on Jason Louv's loudwire blog) 11/14/04 Fragments from a vision: Silver fractal geometries unfold, expanding into dimensions that cannot be described in words human mouths can form. Shafts of liquid light rise from the unseen depths. They reflect off of the silver disk that is the sky. The disk begins to spin, casting illumination into all space. Crystalline forms sprign to life. Their light is a song which stirs the soul. Shadows play in sinuous joy, playing tag with the light. 09/28/04 From a post I made to an online magical chat: Memes are comprised of both conscious and unconscious components. This means that they effectively bridge the gap between these constructs as part of their very nature. Back to the origins of sigilization i.e., A.O. Spare, the importance of forcing the conscious mind to forget the intent of sigils when they are fired has always been recommended. This is ostensibly in order to keep the Psychic Censor from interfering with their effectiveness via the Lust for Result trap. This process seems based upon the assumption that an implanted thought process could not exist harmoniously between the two segments of the mind. In the case of a meme, the bridge essentially acts a tunnel which allows conscious thoughts to reinforce implanted subconscious programs. Consider the meme "Dogmatic Faith". A mind space that is running this meme will have numerous patterns of behavior that are in each mind segment. Each side acts to validate and reinforce the other. This is the hallmark of a successful meme. So why not do this with sigils? Instead of distilling the statement of will down to a glyph to imprint, expand the statement into what is effectively its own brand. Think of Ubik, in the Philip K. Dick novel. It was everywhere and everything. It was the trigger that Joe Chip needed to break out of the reality in which he was trapped. Repeated encounters with the trigger images, sounds, or phrases associated with the statement of will, and hence the program which has been defined, can potentially generate a continuing supply of energy toward the goal. This is not truly a meme, unless the creator chooses to disseminate it to others, but conceptually the process by which the program is encoded is the same. 08/21/04 Information consumes information space. Whatever the media, whether it be RAM, magnetic storage, or the biological analog RAM of the human brain, storing data requires a place to store it. Every medium will have different capacities to store this information. When a person embraces a role, such as becoming a member of a specific sect or cult, that person must devote a portion of their available capacity to hold the personality template of that role. Certain behaviors and patterns must be adhered to, depending on the role which is being played. In some cases, there may be little left of the person's original personality subsequent to their adoption of the role. This is simply a matter of capacity, or at least a limitation of the capability to effectively manage the storage space. 07/10/04 From a post I made on Barbelith: In my opinion, the essence of Chaos is possibility. By applying Will to this possibility, it can be manipulated to achieve the desired result. Tapping into the well of this potential can be dangerous, much as a speeding truck is dangerous without someone at the wheel. If you are willing to start the truck rolling, you must be prepared for the consequences if you are not willing or able to steer. 06/22/04 I was going to write some pretentious sounding prose about the adaptivity of the human bio-computer as it receives input over the course of life, and how this causes changes in the self in order to better relate to the surroundings in which we find ourselves. Upon reflection though, this seems so obvious that it doesn't really warrant much of a treatment. 06/05/04 I've been reading the literature and perusing the websites of some well-known occult organizations. Some of the websites are quite impressive looking. Unfortunately, some of the orders are obviously devoid of any philosophy which would provide any real sense of self-realization, spiritual or personal growth, or connection to greater powers than ourselves. A good rule of thumb that I propose is that a person should never get involved with a religious organization founded by anyone who either was, or claims to have been, a military intelligence officer. Skill in psy-ops does not a spiritual leader make. The most prominent thought is that many of the members of these orders would be advised to pursue more enriching hobbies, as well as perhaps seeking the companionship of a significant other. 06/01/04 I don't believe that any dogmatic system can really fulfill a person who continues to grow and evolve. If a person buys into a pre-formed set of beliefs that someone else is pushing on them, and never looks any further, I don't think that they can grow past that point. I think that emotions are a happenstance of the complex alchemy that takes place in the human brain. Various neurotransmitters, each released by various stimuli in the environment mix and mingle to create the states that we know as love, happiness, hatred, joy, anger, etc. We are trained by society to react in the expected ways to the same stimuli and situations. This is social conditioning, and is necessary to keep the superorganism of society functioning in a cohesive manner. Called Ginnungagap in the Norse myths, it was considered to be a yawning chasm which existed between Niflheim, the realm of ice and Muspelheim, the realm of fire. The interaction of these elements within that place that was not yet a place led to the creation of all that is the actualization of potential. This is analogous to the action of the programmer who encodes the laws of that particular reality which is being created within the firmament of electrons channelled through doped silicon.

Evil is that which seeks to destroy without reason.

Both good and evil are subjective, so they can only be opposites within a given frame of reference.

I believe love and hate to be simply two different perspectives on the same state of emotional intensity. I think that emotions are a happenstance of the complex alchemy that takes place in the human brain. Various neurotransmitters, each released by various stimuli in the environment mix and mingle to create the states that we know as love, happiness, hatred, joy, anger, etc. We are trained by society to react in the expected ways to the same stimuli and situations. This is social conditioning, and is necessary to keep the superorganism of society functioning in a cohesive manner. We encode these patterns as children, when our brain is wet-wired to learn this very thing.
